From Prayer to Provision

Earlier this month, something incredible happened.

A TV, 3D printer, laptop, wall fans, tables, extension cords, robotics tools, and even shoes for the students, over $2,000 worth of equipment, were donated to the Mentor a Mentor Robotics Club. This generous gift came from Ulideres, a local Colombian organization dedicated to developing leaders.

Carlos, Mentor a Mentor’s robotics mentor, joined students in presenting their latest projects to Ulideres guests and explaining their work.

But this story began long before that.

Fifteen years ago, Isaias, leader of Fundación Niños de Paz, our local partner in Colombia, responded to a calling from God to serve the vulnerable community of La Paz in Floridablanca. This neighborhood is made up of low-income families, many of whom have been displaced from rural areas of Colombia due to ongoing violence from non-state armed groups, as well as families who have fled Venezuela’s political and economic crisis in search of safety and stability.

Isaias lived in this neighborhood for three years, walking alongside the community and building trust. Out of that commitment, Fundación Niños de Paz was born. The foundation provides psychosocial support, social services, weekly Bible classes for children and youth, and care for elderly adults.

Then, five years ago, came a prayer for something more: a robotics program.

Isaias and his wife Patricia had a vision—to offer young people access to technology and robotics, skills that could open doors for their future. They began praying consistently for God to provide.

In 2023, that answer to prayer began to take shape.

Cara, Mentor a Mentor’s Program Director, met Isaias at church. After learning about the foundation’s work, she asked a simple question: What needs do you have in your foundation?

That question led to the launch of both robotics and martial arts programs in La Paz.

Since then, the robotics program has flourished. Classes have been consistently full, with a growing waiting list—and more than 60% of participants are girls, an exciting step toward developing female leaders in STEM.

A few months ago, one of the volunteers who works with Isaias and Patricia attended a leadership course at Ulideres and shared the story of the robotics program.

Andrea, the director of Ulideres, was deeply inspired by the program’s focus on developing young leaders, particularly among girls.

Each of these leaders from Ulideres (and others not pictured) helped raise over $2,000 through raffles and personal donations to support the Mentor a Mentor robotics program.

That inspiration turned into action.

Her organization chose to invest in these students, providing the tools they need to keep learning, creating, and dreaming.

We are deeply grateful to God for His provision, for Andrea, and for each of you.

Your generosity makes it possible to support our mentors and sustain programs like this one. If you would like to support a Mentor a Mentor program, you can give monthly or make a one-time gift using the link below.

Thank you also for your prayers. We are seeing God answer them. In fact, just last month, He provided Isaias with a larger and better space for classes and services in La Paz.

In May, the Mentor a Mentor board will gather to pray for our mentors, students, and supporters. If there is anything specific you would like us to pray for, we would be honored if you wrote to us at cara@mentoramentor.org and shared your request.

Thank you for partnering with us.
