Restore

Re·store - verb \ri-ˈstȯr\:

-to give back (someone or something that was lost or taken)

-to return (someone or something)

Mentor a Mentor is thrilled to be partnering this fall with Restore, a branch of LOCO ministries in Chihuahua City, Mexico run by Ashten and Walter Talamantes.

The staggering reality is that 70% of children in orphanages in Mexico are placed in institutions voluntarily. Meaning, families cannot cope to care for both a parent and children, and due to poverty or other hardships they therefore feel forced to place their children in orphanages around the city. Restore believes in treating the root of the problem and restoring these broken families before they are pushed to this point of desperation.

Restore identifies families that are at risk for placing their children in institutions and offers them support so that the family may remain whole. Their community center offers parenting classes, counseling for the children and families with a psychologist, a meal for the children after school, help with homework, devotional time, and some sponsored activities.

This is where Mentor a Mentor is thrilled to partner with and support the work Ashten and Walter are doing with Restore. Starting this Friday, the children at Restore will begin taking courses with two of our instructors. Please join us in prayers and well wishes as they have their first courses, that it be a joyful time of learning and excitement as the children and instructors embark on new endeavors together.

We are also thrilled to announce that we (Javier and Rebecca) are leaving for Mexico tomorrow for a month in Chihuahua to spend time with our instructors, Orphanage Adonai and Restore, as well as seeing family and friends. Stay tuned to learn more about these new partnerships and see pictures of our instructors and children in action!

If you would like to support the work we are doing to help fund these courses go here ,and to learn more about Restore visit their website!
