Spring Semester Orphanage Casa Hogar Adonai 2017

Meet Gabriel: Student. Passionate practitioner of Capoeira. Instructor.

Gabriel began teaching Capoeira classes at Orphanage Casa Hogar Adonai last fall when Instructor Raul asked him to step in. Raul was the first Mentor a Mentor instructor, and when he opened his own Capoeira studio he found it difficult to continue teaching regularly at the orphanage. Thankfully he trusted his brother and student, Gabriel, with the job.

Gabriel shared with us:

I feel great satisfaction at the end of each day because the children respect me both in and outside of the class, even if there was a behavior issue during the course.'

'Every day when I arrive, the children (and even the dog, Max!) run out to greet me!’

‘I can see the progress the children have made in their coordination skills as well as their skills in Capoeira. I hope to see them become even more excited to practice Capoeira this fall. I was encouraged when one of the little boys, David, told me that even if for some reason I wasn’t able to continue teaching at the orphanage, he would still want to continue his training.’

Gabriel’s passion is contagious. His leadership is valued. And his presence is constant.

With Gabriel continuing classes at Orphanage Adonai, he was able to benefit from the path that was paved for him by Raul, who now serves as a mentor with us. Mentor a Mentor is proud of its instructors and mentors, and the incredible work they are doing.
